The Experiment: eBay Wedding Dress

I found and read two books that made me think this plan of a gorgeous and low-budget wedding might be possible.

The first was How to Have an Elegant Wedding for $5000 (or Less): Achieving Beautiful Simplicity Without Mortgaging Your Future.  I liked this book, though it was really helpful just in orienting myself to what I’m even supposed to be doing, and when I should try to do it.  There were definitely some ideas in here that were helpful, but overall I felt like it was asking me to make a lot of concessions to have a great wedding.

The second was Bridal Bargains: Secrets to Throwing a Fantastic Wedding on a Realistic Budget.  Seriously, I can’t say enough good stuff about this book.  It was a little snarky and sarcastic, but hey, I’m a Jersey Girl, that just made me love it more.  This book is literally just tons of website and places to look to save money on all the over-priced stuff that people think they just must have for their wedding.  This book was awesome.  Buy it!

And from Bridal Bargains is where I got the (potentially insane) idea to buy my wedding dress online from eBay.  No, not some pre-worn monstrosity that’s already been taken in and has a wine stain down the front and grass stains on the hem.

Nope, a brand new dress, made just for me, by some person in China.

Yeah, you read that right.

So, it’s an experiment.  As my mom said, “it’s $160, if you hate it we’ll buy a new one.”  I’m surprised how many of my friends have said they considered doing this, and a few of them say they know someone who did and it turned out all right.  So fingers crossed for the dress!  Of course, I’ll let you know the results.
